Recently, Synaptics confirmed that one of the top 5 smartphones manufacturer will be the first to release a smartphone with its latest in-screen fingerprint sensor. And now, Vivo has been confirmed as the manufacturer of the new smartphone that will showcase the latest technology.
This latest news comes as a surprise as both Samsung and Apple has implemented different approach regarding the biometric security feature of their flagship devices recently. For instance, Samsung placed fingerprint sensor in an awkward position for Galaxy S8. On the other hand, Apple has ditched the fingerprint scanner completely in favor of FaceID for iPhone X as there was no space for a physical home button.
However, latest report has revealed that the new embedded fingerprint sensor is twice as fast as FaceID as it reads the fingerprint of user from beneath the screen. In a recent article, tech analyst Patrick Moorhead wrote, “The Clear ID experience was fast and simple. I pressed the right side button to wake, a fingerprint image illuminated at the bottom of the phone, I touched it, and it let me in. I am expecting Vivo to modify the experience, so I just have to “hold to wake” so I do not even have to use the button.”
As previous rumors indicated that Samsung will continue to use the traditional fingerprint sensor with upcoming Galaxy S9, we will have to wait to find out if the latest in-screen fingerprint sensor lives up to expectations. As the smartphone will be unveiled during CES 2018 in January, we will have to wait just few more days to find out more about the upcoming Vivo smartphone.
