Although Tesla’s autopilot is the most advanced driving assistant out there, there is still room for improvement. However, according to Elon Musk, we will need some new hardware to make the required advancement in the field. In a recent conference, Musk revealed that Tesla is at the moment developing its own chips to achieve this required advancement.
During his appearance at the NIPS machine learning conference, Musk said, “We are developing customized AI hardware chips.”
“I wanted to make it clear that Tesla is serious about AI, both on the software and hardware fronts.”
He also revealed that Tesla is currently developing specialized AI hardware which might be the best in the world.
Musk’s latest comment comes after recently reports claimed that Tesla has more than 50 people working on the chips. However, at the time, there was no confirmation regarding the matter.
If the team goes on to bring the new chip, then we will see Level 5 full autonomy within next two years. In case you didn’t know, at the moment, Tesla is using Nvidia graphics chips to power Autopilot.
