Although few weeks earlier Microsoft admitted that the company’s Windows mobile platform is officially dead, it doesn’t mean that the company will stop bringing applications for Android anytime soon. However, back in October, everyone was surprised when the company release its Edge browser for Android. Two weeks earlier, the application finally came out of beta period and became available for everyone. Interestingly, the company has hit a milestone as the browser has been downloaded over a million times on Android.
While the figure might be pretty small when you consider Microsoft’s other services such as Word, Excel, OneDrive which have been downloaded over 100 million times. However, Edge never matched Microsoft’s expectations as other browsers remain to be more popular among users. As a result, the figure is an impressive achievement for the company. Moreover, at the moment, the browser is the third most popular communication application available on the Paly Store behind Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.
If you haven’t tried the application, you might want to give the browser a try since the Edge feels familiar thanks to the browser’s use of Chrome’s Blink Engine. Moreover, the application brings most of the features available with its desktop version such as Favorites, Reading List, New Tab Page, and Reading View. If you are using Windows 10 computer, then you will be glad to know that the browser contains a feature “continue on PC” which lets you to continue your browsing after you have moved away from your phone.
However, at the moment, the browser does not support extension and we will have to wait to see if Microsoft brings support for extensions in the browser. At the moment however, the browser provides solid alternative to other browsers such as Firefox and Opera.
