An unnamed philanthropist has donated $1 million bitcoin to the Internet Archive to help fund the organization. The donation was made via the Pineapple Fund which has given money to different charities in form of bitcoin. With the latest donation, Internet Archive becomes the 14th entry to receive bitcoin who claimed that they are donating most of their coins to accomplish greater good.
In case you are wondering, Internet Archive works to preserve the Internet as it has existed over the years. Thanks to its Wayback Machine, anyone can get a glimpse of the digital past. At the moment, the archive’s library ow contains more than 3.7 million images, 15 million books among other materials.
As a result of its intensive collection, the Internet Archive is highly important from data-reservation standpoint. Talking about the latest donation, the Internet Archive has said, “We so admire this donor using Bitcoin as the currency of giving this season, and are honored to be the recipients of such a gift. Whoever you are, you are doing a world of good. Thank you.”
