Benchmark of Windows Running on ARM Processor Shows that the Processor is Failing to Deliver Satisfying Performance

We have known for a while now that Microsoft is working on bringing windows on ARM powered laptop in future as the processor is likely to give solid performance with improved energy efficiency. While we have seen windows running on ARM based laptop few months earlier, the demonstration didn’t reveal much about the processing power of the laptop or how pleasant the experience of running windows on such device would be. Interestingly, German site has recently discovered leaked benchmarks on Geekbench’s website under the name Qualcomm CLS.

The listing in the site reveals that the testing was completed with an octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor clocked between 1.9GHz and 2.2GHz paired with 8GB of RAM. However, the numbers revealed that the highest score for the device is just 1202 for single core performance and 4068 for multi-core performance.

While the full details of the tested device aren’t known, the numbers fall below of the scores of Android devices powered by same processor. For example, devices powered by same devices generally score over 2200 for single-core tests and over 7700 for multi-core tests. Moreover, the numbers are way below of a device running i3-8100 CPU. A device running the processor can score over 3692 in single-core tests and 11860 in multi-core tests.

If you are disappointed by the numbers however, note that the numbers are lie likely coming from a pre-release machine. With the launch of the devices are few weeks away, it will be interesting to see if the numbers improve after optimizing the operating system completely.
