Although production for Shazam is set to begin February of next year, we didn’t know a lot of details regarding the casting choices in recent months. If you are one of the many fans who are eagerly waiting for news related to the upcoming movie, then you will be glad to know that Zachary Levi is set to reprise the title role of the upcoming DCEU movie.
While it’s certainly good news ahead of production, the studio made a surprising choice in terms of actor. For instance, Zachary Levi is known for his comedic roles such as NBC’s Chuck which was one of the biggest television so far. At the moment, the actor plays Fandral which is also another comedic role. However, given his talents, the actor might be the perfect fit for the role after all.
As it stands, Levi is set to reprise the grownup role of the superhero character. In case you didn’t know, Shazam follows the story of Billy Batson who can transform into an adult superhero by saying the word Shazam which is the acronym for name of six legendary figures: Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury. While Levi is set to reprise the adult version of the superhero, the young actor who’ll play Billy Batson remains to be cast.
Interestingly, the studio also chose David F. Sandberg to direct the upcoming movie. If you have followed the director’s work, then you already know that he is known for horror genre. Earlier this year, he directed Annabelle: Creation and last year, he directed highly acclaimed Lights Out. As a result, it won’t be surprising if the upcoming movie lives up to fans’ expectations.
Shazam is set for April 5, 2019 release. As the production of the movie is set to begin shortly, we are likely to hear more about the casting choices and story in the coming months.
