WhatsApp Introduces Encrypted Location Sharing Service

WhatsApp is easily one of the most popular instant messaging services and when the company introduced its live location sharing feature few months earlier, users were concerned about their privacy if they opt to share the live location with others. For a long time now, WhatsApp has provided encrypted messaging service and in order to make the live location sharing more secured, the company has announced encrypted location sharing service will come to the app in the coming weeks.

The latest news comes thanks to an official announcement by WhatsApp which revealed that the app will support live location sharing service for both Android and iPhone in the coming weeks. Similar to texts and calls of the application, the location sharing service will be protected by end-to-end encryption.

When the latest feature becomes available to everyone, you will be able to share the location with everyone in your contact list. Alternatively, you can also choose to turn off the feature completely so that WhatsApp doesn’t share you location with other users automatically. Additionally, you can turn off the location sharing service for selected contacts in case you want to.

Although you can choose the location from the Location menu inside the attach button, at the moment, the feature isn’t available for everyone. However, the company is expected to rollout the feature to all users in the coming days.
