According to a latest report by TechCrunch, Facebook has officially launched desktop apps of Facebook for both Mac and PC. The latest applications feature screen sharing functionality which is essential part of any business communication based app.
The latest addition to the workplace app will serve as a good functionality going forward as the company looks to add more companies to its network. As of now, the social networking giant has over 14,000 businesses using the application. While the main competition for Facebook in the area as of now is Slack, thanks to its bigger userbase, the gap between two companies is likely to shrink over the coming months.
While the company’s latest efforts have been focused towards releasing applications for smartphone users, the latest addition to the desktop versions shouldn’t come as a surprise since smartphones cannot carry out the functionalities required for business related works. Talking about the latest release, Facebook’s Vanessa Chan commented, “This was one of the most widely requested features by customers, so we built it. The desktop app is still in beta and being tested by Workplace customers who are providing feedback that we’ll use to improve the product before a wider rollout.”
While time will tell if Facebook’s efforts to attract more businesses will become a success, the company is certainly brining solid features to the Workplace app. We will have to wait to find out if the company decides to add more features in the coming months.
