August proved to be a major disappointment to fans as several highly anticipated movies failed to live up to expectations. However, analysts predicted that Stephen King’s IT will make it to the top of the list in terms of box office easily. Interestingly, in addition to soaring past others to reach the top of the box office, the movie broke all previous box office collection records as it gained more than $115 million which is nearly three times higher than Hotel Transylvania 2 which had an overall collection of $48.5 million back in 2015.
These latest figures are highly impressive considering it’s an R-rated movie and the latest reports regarding the box office collection come via Box Office Mojo. The movie debuted in more than 4,000 theaters. What’s more impressive, the movie has already made more than three times of the original $35 million budget from domestic box office collection alone. In addition to solid domestic box office, the movie is performing pretty well worldwide as well as it has collected $62 million from overseas box office.
The latest success of IT comes as a revelation as August was marked as one of the worst months for movie of all time. IT is based on Stephen King’s highly popular novel of the same name. The story takes place in Derry, Maine and depicts the story of a group of young kids as the face their biggest fears. The movie stars Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, with Finn Wolfhard, Sophia Lillis, Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Chosen Jacobs and Wyatt Oleff playing the kids who make up The Losers Club. New Line Cinema has already started to work on the sequel as original writer is set to return to write script of the second movie which has an expected release date in sometime in 2019.
