Over last several months, Google has been bringing some major changes to layouts of its different services to improve user-experiences. Due to testing, users sometime see new option appear and disappear if the feature doesn’t go well with users. And now, in certain fed categories, the search engine giant has start to offer home screen shortcuts to let you go to that specific section without the need to go to the feed.
If you are interested in trying out the latest features, you can open the application and head to the Feed and tap one of the categories at the top. If you scroll down a bit, you should see a box that will offer you an option to add a shortcut to your home screen. As of now, the option is available for entertainment, sports and dining.
After you have created the shortcut, you can come back to home screen and tap the shortcut you’ve just created. Tapping on the shortcut will take you to the specific category with a search bar on top of your selected feed. Similar to other icons, you can move the shortcuts and even organize them within a folder.
While the new method will increase user experience, please note that the features are available only for v7.11 or v7.12 of the Google app. If you are using the older versions of the application, you might not see the feature at the moment. If you are using the updated application and still can’t see the option, you might need to wait a few more days to receive a small update to the Google application.
