Facebook in recent years have shifted its focus to Artificial intelligence research as it continue to rely on AI to combat several ongoing issues on the social network. The social networking giant is actively expanding its AI related research activities and now, the company has opened a new AI research lab in Montreal which will work alongside the company’s other research labs across the world.
The research lab will be led by Joelle Pineau, professor at McGill University and co-director of the university’s Reasoning and Learning Lab. Talking about the latest A research lab, the company’s chief AI scientist, Yann LeCun had wrote in an official post, “The Montreal lab will house research scientists and engineers working on a wide range of ambitious AI research projects, but it will also have a special focus on reinforcement learning and dialog systems.”
In addition to research on robotics and other related areas, LeCun has stated that the Montreal lab will engage with different research communities via publications. LeCun revealed, “Montreal already has an existing fantastic academic AI community, an exciting ecosystem of startups, and promising government policies to encourage AI research. We are excited to become part of this larger community, and we look forward to engaging with the entire ecosystem and helping it continue to thrive.”
