Audi Unveils New All-Electric Car Concept with 500 Miles of Range

As electric cars are becoming highly popular with each passing year, major auto manufacturers are joining the force to bring more electric cars in the coming years. Most recently, Audi revealed its electric car concept during the Frankfurt Motor Show. While the concept of the car is pretty impressive, its range is unprecedented with the car having a range of record breaking 700-800 kilometers range.

While the range of the upcoming electric car is highly surprising, the company has stated that the upcoming models will implement solid-state batter which aren’t mass produced by other companies. As a result, the battery pack that powers the car will produce more energy thanks to regenerative braking.

In an official statement, the company said, “The four electric motors produce a total of 260 kW and 550 Newtonmeters (405.7 lb-ft). Each drives one wheel, enabling electronically controlled, variable quattro all-wheel drive. Maximum acceleration played a less important role in the specification than maximum efficiency and thus also range. This operating strategy is also pursued by the powertrain and electric brake units, which use recuperation to recover energy. Targeted lightweight construction of the multimaterial body and optimized aerodynamics also help the Audi Aicon to achieve ranges between 700 and 800 kilometers (435.0 – 497.1 mi) on a single charge.”

In addition to this, the concept car also works with 800-volt ultra-fast charging system. Moreover, the vehicles will showcase Audi’s autonomous driving ambitions in the long run. However, if you want to get your hands on the upcoming vehicles, then you will need to wait several years as the newest car will arrive in market as early as 2020.
