YouTube Adds a New ‘Breaking News’ Section to Its Homepage and Mobile Apps

For a long period of time, users have turned to YouTube to find latest breaking news and analysis by fans and traditional media alike. As it can be little bit difficult to navigate the platform to find breaking news, Google recently added a ‘Breaking News’ section to its homepage along with mobile applications to make it easier for users to find what they are looking for or stay connected with the trending newsworthy events around the world.

If you are familiar with the platform, then you won’t have problems with navigating the site as the new section is similar to the ‘Recommended Channels’ feature. As mentioned earlier, the section covers newsworthy trending topics rather than other contents in the platform. As a result, it might be a good addition for users who uses the platform to stay connected with the world.

However, as of now, Google is yet to confirm whether the section’s contents are curated by humans or some form of automated algorithms. Considering Google using algorithms to feature contents on a regular basis, it won’t be surprising if the company uses similar methods to bring trending news topics. It’s also unknown if the platform will focus on regional trending topics based on a user’s location in the future. Even if the section doesn’t feature regional contents to users, it’s certainly welcome addition for everyone who wants to stay connected to the trending topics via the video sharing platform.
