While Warner Bros. launched DCEU with a lot of expectations, first few movies failed to live up to expectations as the movies were heavily criticized regardless of their box office success. However, the studio scored its first major success with Wonder Woman as the movie became first to experience both critical and commercial success. And now, the movie has crossed another milestone as it earned more than $800 million at global box office to surpass first two movie set in the DCEU.
The latest reports come via Box Office Mojo as Wonder Woman currently stands as the second highest grossing movie of this year domestically and fifth highest grossing movie in terms of worldwide box office collection. Other highest grossing movies in terms of worldwide box office collections are, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($862.2 million), Despicable Me 3 ($948.4 million), The Fate of the Furious ($1.23 billion) and Beauty and the Beast ($1.26 billion).
Given that both Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad had been thrashed by critics, Wonder Woman is a good start to move the extended universe in the right direction. Apart from Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, Wonder Woman casts Connie Nielsen as Hippolyata, Robin Wright as Antiope, Danny Huston as Luddendorf, David Thewlis as Sir Patrick, Saïd Taghmaoui as Sameer, Ewen Bremner as Charlie, Eugene Brave Rock as The Chief, Lucy Davis as Etta Candy and Elena Anaya as Dr. Maru.
The sequel of the movie is set to hit the theater on December 13, 2019 although there is no announcement regarding the production of the movie thus far.
