Facebook Opens Up Craiglist Like Section

If you are a regular user of Facebook, news regarding new features wouldn’t be particularly surprising for you as the company releases new features for its massive audience on a regular basis. In order to make the platform more appealing to vendors, the company recently introduced Craiglist like section to attract users who are looking to find customers to sell their products.

This feature comes as the company is actively trying to figure out what people want from a Marketplace. Talking about the latest feature, the social network’s head of Marketplace, Deb Liu, told Recode, “We’ll kind of look and see what’s popular, what people want to engage with. So if people are searching or looking for something, we want to make that available to them.”

At the moment, there are some new items immediately available through the marketplace. For example, cars from local dealerships, real estate listings, ticket sales as well as products from professional retailers. While Facebook already had ticket sales and shopping pages, all of these products will now be under the Marketplace and when the company has a better idea of what its customers are looking for, it will boost its offerings.

The social networking giant launched the Marketplace earlier last year. Back in May, the social networking giant made it easier for everyone to find and post items as it expanded the forum. Apart from that, the company expanded its offerings to more than twelve countries earlier this month. However, the company is yet to take steps to manage payments and talking about the issue, Liu said, “Eventually, we could go in a number of different directions [with payments. But right now we’re really trying to figure out, ‘how do you actually drive engagement between people and businesses, people and other people locally?’ That’s how we really think about the product.”

As the company already has a massive user base, new offerings might add value to its users who are looking to accomplish similar tasks. However, we will have to wait a while before we can see to what extent the latest features satisfy the network’s users.
