Over last few years, SSDs have become a norm for consumers who want high speed computers. While SSDs in the earlier days used to be ridiculously expensive and out of reach from most of the budget consumers, in recent years, prices of SSDs have dropped significantly. Toshiba is one of the major manufacturers of the drives and the company has recently introduced new SG6 series for consumers.
If you are currently on the market for new SSD to improve performances of your older laptop or desktop computer, you can certainly give the new SATA 3 SG6 model a try as the SSD can read and write at 550MBps and 535MBps respectively. As you might already know, in addition to providing more reliable performances, SSDs are more energy efficient compared to traditional HDDs. However, Toshiba has claimed that the latest version of the SSDs will be even more energy efficient as they will save more than 40 percent power compared to previous generation. As a result, if you want to improve your laptop or similar devices’ battery life, you might see improved battery life along with faster performance.
As of now, the company has announced three different storage options to choose from: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. All of the three models come in SATA 3 and M.2 2280 form factors which might meet your need for better performance. Apart from this, the latest SSDs use the company’s latest 64-layer, TLC, BiCS Flash and QSBC technology which will provide you with better error-correction to protect data from being corrupted. However, you might need to wait a few more days before getting your hands on the latest drives as the company will start shipping the drives to OEM partners from today. As of now, the company hasn’t confirmed the pricing for the SSDs but expect them to be priced similarly to the other SSD models currently in the market.
