When Marvel announced that they will be making a movie with lesser known characters from the comics, few would have expected that the Guardians of the Galaxy would become a huge success for the studio. With the sequel of the movie rocking at the box office, it wasn’t surprising that James Gunn recently confirmed that he was coming back to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. And now, he has confirmed that he will take charge of MCU after the events of the movie in future.
This latest confirmation came during his interview with IGN when he was asked about the possibility of him taking over the MCU movies. He said, “We talk about it all the time. It’s already a part of what I’m doing with Marvel and the conversations that Kevin and I have every day. When we’re talking about Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and that story, that’s a story that will lead to other stories. It’s innate to the DNA that that’s the end of a trilogy but it’s the beginning of a whole other element of the Marvel Cosmic universe. That’s a part of what I’m doing now.”
With the Guardians of the Galaxy is becoming fan favorite over its run, there’s a possibility that the future movies set in the universe would center on the storyline of the original team. If you have watched the latest Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, then you might already have an idea of how the future of MCU is turning out with the post credit scenes introducing several characters for future. With the third installment still years away, we will have to wait pretty long time before we can learn more about the future of the MCU.
