Google Starts to Experiment with VR Advertisements

Google has managed to create the massive user base over the years largely thanks to the free services it offers to general consumers. While enterprise solutions along with the premium products plays a significant role in the company’s revenue, advertising has proven to be one of the biggest contributing factors of the company’s revenue. Recently, the company has started to experiment Virtual Reality based ads which might be coming to VR based products in the coming months.

The recent news comes via an official post in Google’s official developers blog where the company revealed that it is working with a different advertising format designed for the VR platform at the area 120 incubator. In the official post, the company revealed, “Developers and users have told us they want to avoid disruptive, hard-to-implement ad experiences in VR. So our first idea for a potential format presents a cube to users, with the option to engage with it and then see a video ad. By tapping on the cube or gazing at it for a few seconds, the cube opens a video player where the user can watch, and then easily close, the video.”

While it will be interesting to see how Google implements new advertising method in the virtual reality products, chances are, the company is just experimenting several versions of advertisements suitable for the VR based products. However, it’s not known when we might see the ads in the products but the company is expected to introduce the new ads in the coming weeks.
