Over last decade, Marvel has perfected the formula of making blockbuster movies and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is no different. While everyone was thinking that this summer would be a boring affair with so many movies in the similar genre coming out, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 managed to take it out of the park as the sequel cross emphatic $500 million mark worldwide.
Recently, Box Office Mojo’s records shows that the latest movie in the MCU has so far made $501.1 million in the global box office and is currently on the track to break the collection made by the first movie which was considered to be a massive risk by studio. If the sequel manages to cross the $1 billion mark, it would make the fifth movie in the MCU to make it to the elite group of movies.
While the characters now have a backstory and are closer to audiences, the latest movie seems to break from the trend of critically acclaimed movies in the franchise. Although the general consensus seems to be that the sequel isn’t up to the par with the original movie, still it holds 81 percent approval rating from critics. On the other hand, audience rating is similar as the latest release has a 91 percent approval rating compared to 92 percent.
With the latest success, one can only ask if Marvel will ever fail to make a movie that fails in the box office.
