Warning: Spoilers ahead for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Marvel Cinematic Universe is taking shape petty nicely leading up to Avengers: Infinity War which is currently filming and is set for official release on May 4, 2018. As the upcoming movie will affect all of the main storylines in the original Marvel Cinematic Universe, the most intriguing question is how the timeline will be affected in future. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 confirmed, Marvel studios president Kevin Feige recently confirmed that the movie will indeed take place after the events of Infinity War.
It was revealed previously that the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie takes place in 2014 with the sequel taking place shortly thereafter. However, the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War is set in the year 2018. Recently, James Gunn was asked on Twitter if the third installment Guardians of the Galaxy is set before Avengers 3 and 4. James Gunn said with a brief response, “No. Vol. 3 will take place AFTER Avengers 3 & 4.”
With more than 4 years of gap between two movies, it’s likely that the writers will have plenty of time to make characters grow as we are yet to see the characters to their fullest. Few days earlier, James Gunn confirmed that the writing process for the upcoming movie has already started with a Zoe Saldana’s character having a bigger role in the movie. While there hasn’t been any confirmation regarding the writing process, you can be sure that we will get some more details in the coming months.
As of now, not a lot is known regarding the movie although it has been confirmed that the movie will be part of Phase 4 in the MCU.
