Although Fans loved Hannibal for its three seasons on television, the show went to have poor ratings. And ultimately back in 2015, NBC canceled the show and since the cancelation, there has been rumor that the network is considering to give the show another go. Bryan Fuller recently talked about the possibility of another season.
Recently the showrunner said, “I have conversations with Martha De Laurentiis. I have conversations with Mads and Hugh. We’re are all excited about the prospect of returning to the story. There’s some hurdles to get through. The rights revert back to Martha in September, I believe. Then it’s a matter of, ‘Do we do it with Gaumont?’ Which would be the only way to do it if we wanted to use those characters.”
Although there isn’t any definitive word on the show, everyone involved with the show is more than likely to return. As the writers had spent first three seasons to set up an intriguing fourth season, it might be worth it for the network to give the show another go. Moreover, as the writers had more time to get concepts together, chances are, the fourth season might be a reviving season for the show.
Interestingly, the streaming right at the time of cancellation belonged to Amazon and the rights are up for grab in this September meaning if other streaming services like Netflix and Hulu consider the project as a profitable option, it’s more than likely that we will see another season.
Over the last few years, both Mads Mikkelson and Hugh Dancy have been busy with different projects and we will have to wait and see if we indeed get another season of the show.
