German auto manufacturer BMW has outsell Audi and Mercedes-Benz to become China’s leading luxury brand as the company’s overall sales rose nearly 40 percent in April.
While BMW managed to see an increment with a total of 48,869 vehicle sales in April, Mercedes and Audi’s sales figures suffered as a result. While Mercedes sales rose 35 percent over the year, Audi’s sales declined nearly 7 percent.
This comes as a surprise as Audi for a long period of time was the country’s luxury sales dealer. However, the automaker failed to settle a dispute with dealers regarding launch of a new distribution network.
In the first four months of the year though, BMW captured the opportunity to increase its sales figure with a total shipment of 191,697 units. In the coming months, the company is planning on increasing the capacity of vehicles production to keep up with the rapid sales number. As of now, the company has a joint production venture with Brilliance China Automotive Holdings.
