For last couple of months, fans were wondering if ABC will renew Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for another season and luckily, the network confirmed earlier last week that season 5 of the series is indeed happening. However, at the time, it was also confirmed that the show will be moving to Friday. Recently, Channing Dungey explained the reason for the shift.
He recently said, “We’ve turned Friday into more of a destination for our fantasy and science fiction fans. Once Upon a Time and S.H.I.E.L.D. are airing on the same night for the first time, which is giving many fans of both shows what they’ve been asking for a long time. When we were looking at the schedule, it’s interesting how much pressure we’ve had from fans to put those shows closer together on the schedule for quite some time. We like the idea of Fridays being a destination.”
So as it turns out, the network is simply putting all of the fantasy shows together on the same day as Once Upon a Time will go to the 8 PM from its usual Sunday schedule.
While the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has been renewed for fifth season, it wasn’t listed on the network’s official schedule for fall 2017. As a result, we will need to wait a bit longer to receive all the details of the show unless the network goes for mid-season premier. Whatever happens, moving to Friday might be a good thing for the show going forward as moving to Friday means there won’t be any significant pressure on the show to get high ratings as shows on Tuesdays have much higher expectations.
