Unlike movies, television series have hard time replicating success over a long period of time as audiences have more choices when it comes to television series. If the shows on small screen doesn’t capture audiences in the first few seasons, it becomes highly unlikely that network renews the show and at times, shows with some of the biggest fanbase come to an end for unknown reason (e.g. Firefly). However, Man Seeking Woman wasn’t one of the shows like Firefly and FXX has finally decided to cut the show off from the network which means the show won’t be returning for season 4 next year.
It is a classic example of a show failing largely due to the number of audiences. Since the very beginning, the show has managed to become a hit with critics for a combination of smart writing and excellent writing. However, throughout the season, the series managed to keep only 367,000 viewers per episode on average which is way below average for a television series.
The latest season came to a close earlier last month and the season finale managed to drew highest audience rating for entire season. However, it didn’t save the show from getting axed as the network analyzed data from entire season. Given that It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia serves as a lead-in for the show, the numbers for the show could be worse and it’s easy to see why the show got cancelled. While lead actor Jay Baruchel proved that he can draw audiences to small screen, maybe the show needed a network with bigger audience base. We will have to wait and see what happens next.
