Over last couple of seasons, CW’s The Flash has managed to make the concept of parallel universe pretty popular as the show constantly features alternative versions of its characters. While most of the episodes of The Flash or other shows take place on earth-1, Supergirl is set in Earth-38 and we are yet to see alternative versions of other characters. Interestingly, the Supergirl’s executive producer has explained during an interview why the show hasn’t featured alternative characters from DC universe so far.
The more you start to do that stuff, the more it can very easily become annoying or like, ‘Here we go again.’ Even on Supergirl itself, like Chyler [Leigh] got the opportunity to play a White Martian [impersonating Alex]. Already built into our show, there’s already characters playing different versions of themselves. It could very easily spiral out of control.
While we have seen crossover episodes over last two seasons, we are yet to see crossover between Supergirl and other shows and it make sense since all other shows are set in the Earth-1. However, the producer hasn’t ruled out the possibility as he also said during the interview with IGN,
It’s like Supergirl’s over here, and it’s its own show. Technically speaking, it’s just another Earth, the same way Earth-2 is or Earth-3 or Earth-19. So technically speaking, there should be an Alex Danvers on Earth-1, or Earth Prime. But if we start doing that, I just feel like… Not that all hell hasn’t broken loose already, but unless we had a really good story for it…
If that’s the case, then the show should be kept separate from other series since there isn’t really much story to go on with the characters in other universe at the moment. Most importantly, with all of the series currently gaining momentum with this season, it is unnecessary to show the characters visiting other series constantly over the course of the season.
