Although we have learned the official title of the upcoming Star Wars 8, the title of the movie didn’t reveal anything at all. Understandably, over last couple of months fans have discussed the possible explanations behind the name and recently, director Rian Johnson decided to clarify things as he turned to Twitter.

After a fan asked the director to say the meaning of the upcoming movie on his birthday and the director replied,

“@ndrichter It means the final Jedi. Happy birthday!”

As Luke Skywalker was specifically referred to as “the last Jedi” in the opening crawl from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it won’t be surprising if he turns out to be the last Jedi. However, we have to wait for a while in order to understand the title of the movie. With the teaser trailer might be coming during the Star Wars Celebration next month, we might get to see the meaning of the name.

The cast for Star Wars Episode VIII includes Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’O and Mark Hamill. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson and is set for release on December 15.
