Lucifer had managed to get instant success when its first season premiered back in 2016 and the studio was pretty quick to increase the number of episodes from 13 to 22 for the second season. Although the second season currently on hiatus, the studio has decided to cut the episodes to 18 for the second season but there’s no reason to get upset as the show has already been renewed for the third season and those 4 episodes are supposed to be standalone episodes. As a result, the studio decided to hold onto the episodes until the next season.
However, this news obviously attracted a lot of attention since back in last year when Fox renewed the show, it ordered 22 episodes. Thus it will be interesting to see if these 4 episodes will count towards the episodes of third season and as earlier Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson confirmed on Twitter that the third season already has a full 22 episodes, we might get a total of 26 episodes come next season of the show.
The show saw a number of changes over last couple of months as the production of the series is moving to Los Angeles after shooting its first two seasons in Vancouver. This is the first time the show’s primary filming will take place in Los Angeles after the pilot. However, with the show coming to an end much quicker than you might have expected, Lucifer might return to the television in fall rather than at a later date. As mentioned earlier, the show is currently on hiatus and will return on May 1st
