Following a meeting with Illinois governor Bruce Rauner about the city’s underfunded education system earlier, Chance The Rapper announced that he will be making a $1 million donation to public schools system. Earlier this afternoon, the rapper hosted a Facebook live session to inform fans on further development on the matter and he confirmed that Chicago Bulls organization will contribute another $1 million to develop the city’s schools.
As of now, total amount of funding is $2.2 million as he announced earlier that he will donate extra $10,000 for every $100,000 he receives in donations. During the live session, he also confirmed the names of the schools which will receive donations.
He further announced a new arts project that will help schools to pay for arts education programs. He concluded by saying, “Thank y’all for holding this check. I know it’s getting heavy. Don’t worry about it, it’s symbolic. Yeah, man. Drops mic.”
