Warner Bros. announced two spin-offs after the LEGO Movie became a massive blockbuster back in 2014. One of the two spinoffs, the LEGO Batman Movie, was released earlier this month and so far has collected more than $226.2 million worldwide. While the last of the two spinoffs Ninjago arrives in theater later this year, we will have to wait a long time for the sequel to the original LEGO movie that’s scheduled for release in 2019. However, Chris McKay, director of The LEGO Batman Movie has talked about the possible storyline for The LEGO movie as he will direct the upcoming movie. He confirmed that the movie will be set in outer space. During a recent interview, he said,
“LEGO 2 is going to be this big musical and space action movie. They need a lot of the writing, a lot of development, not only with script development, but development with songwriters. So it was very ambitious to get that movie out.”
However, since we have to wait more than two years, it’s likely that we won’t be hearing any significant details in the coming days. In case you didn’t know, although Phil Lord and Chris Miller directed the original movie, won’t be directing the upcoming movie since they will be directing the Han Solo spin-off. The LEGO Movie 2 is scheduled to hit the theater on February 19, 2019.
