The Matrix trilogy is easily one of the best franchise of all time and established Keanu Reeves as a major movie star. It’s been more nearly 2 decades since the first movie came out and the latest John Wick: Chapter 2 serves as a reunion for stars Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne. During the movie’s promotion in the UK, Keanu Reeves was asked if he would come back to The Matrix 4 if it happens and he replied positively. He said, “Wachowskis would have to be involved. They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not? People die, stories don’t people in stories don’t.”
There was definitely a possibility that the Matrix can return give that the final scene of the series shows The Matrix being rebooted, with The Oracle (Mary Alice) telling young Sati (Tanveer K. Atwal) that she suspects they’ll see Neo again, “Someday.” However, several reports over last decade have suggested that the sequel won’t happen in future.
These speculations come after an unconfirmed report from 2014 suggested that Wachowskis were planning a new Matrix trilogy, with the first installment arriving in 2017. While that didn’t happen, the Wachowskis are relatively busy in the small screen with their new series Sense8 debuting this May. However, it doesn’t mean that fans won’t be crazy about another sequel of the iconic franchise.
