Despite being a relatively unknown comic book character, Marvel’s Doctor Strange became one of major box office success last year and finished its theatrical run just a week ahead of the Blu-ray release. Ahead of the release, director Scott Derrickson turned to Twitter to thank fans. In a tweet, he said,
“A week before the Blu-ray release, Doctor Strange has finished its theatrical run. My heartfelt thanks to all who helped make it a success.”
Aside from making $675 million in global box office, the movie was once of the major hit among both critics and fans as the movie currently holds to a great 90 percent approval rating from critics and 88 percent from audiences. Surprisingly, despite being relatively unknown character, Doctor Strange is the highest grossing solo character movie made in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We will see Doctor Strange in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok later this year and it’s more than likely that we will see a sequel at some point in future given that the success the movie experienced during its run. However, the director said that there isn’t currently any plan to make the sequel any time soon. The Blu-ray set will be released on February 28th.
